ASSISTING MISSIONS

THE YEAR’S ACTIVITIES. The eighth annual meeting of the St. Stephen’s Girls’ Club was hold m St Stephen’s Hall last evening, when the Rev. J. F. Wiseman presided over an attendance of between 30 and 40 members. , The balance-sheet for the past yeai, showing receipts £45 10s 44d and expenditure £37 19s 9d, leaving a credit balance of £7 10s 7d, was adopted Tho secretary (Miss I. Cambridge) reported that during the year donations had been made to St Saviour s Orphanage, cases of gifts for the Melanesian Mission had been sent to tho depot in Christchurch, and the usual £25 sent annually to the club s mission school at Ambassamudram (India) had been remitted Several entertainments had been held, including two dances, in aid of the club funds, and a concert and dance at Mayfield in aid of the funds of the Mayfield Church. The members of the club had been entertained by the bt. Andrew’s Girls’ Club at .Tinwald, and later the Tinwald Club had paid a return visit to /St . Stephen’s. After discussion tho report was Correspondence from the secretary of the Melanesian Mission Depot in Christchurch and 1 from the Principal of the Sarah Tucker College, Palamcottah, South India, was read. It was decided that the introduced last year of collecting for the 'lndian Mission School by means of collecting cards be continued, and two members of the committee were appointed to take charge of this. The following officers were elected: President, Mrs Newton ones; vicepresidents, Mesdames R. B. Coward, VG. M. Boyce, E. C. Bathurst, M. E. Ruddock, R. Galbraith, T. H. Willis, ‘R. G. Alingtoa, J. S. Laing, D. Thomas, F. H, Ohoato, and Burr, and Miss Nicoll; secretary and treasurer, Miss I. Cambridge; committee, Misses B. and E. Claridge, R. Jeffs, O. Maister, W. Dixon, I. Easterbrook, A. Keen, E. Smith, and E. - Withell; librarian, Miss W. Dixon.
