EXHIBITION VISIT

ASHBURTON SCHOOLS. NEARLY 200 PUPILS MAY GO. The following schools were represented at a meeting held last evening in the Borough School, to discuss the question of a children's excursion to the Duuedin Exhibition: Borough, East Ashburton, Allenton, Tinwald, Rakaia, Methyen, Fairton, Hinds, Willowby, Chertsey, and Lagmhor. Mr Boyce presided, and briefly outlined the origin of the children's excursions to the Exhibition. He said that as the Christchurch schools had fully 1.500 children

oing to the Exhibition,' only certain dates were available for Ashburton. The Railway Department wanted 500 in a party to make up a special train, and the difficulty in Ashburton would be to get sufficient children. The cost to each child would be about £2, and with tho exception of blankets and eating utensils, everything was provided. Separate sleeping quarters were provided for boys and girls, who were made up into parties of 20, under adult charge. The various schools in the County had been circularised and* the replies giving the approximate number of children to make th@ trip would be in in a. few days. March 1 had been settled on as the most suitable- date for Ashburton. The visit would be from a Monday to the followin Friday. Mr Garton, headmaster of the East Ashburton School, suggested that a committee from among those present should be set up to make all arrangements and go into details.- It was a

chance no children should miss. The limit of adults to accompany the children) was 10 per cent. He, did not think that the Technical or High School pupils were included.

On a count being taken by the schools represented in the room, it was found that nearly 200 children would bo making the trip. A sub-committee' consisting of Messrs C. G. M. Boyce, W. W. Garton; S. H. Sullivan, W. H. Woods, W. S. Kerr, and P. Houston,, was appointed to go into details- in; connection with the excursion.
