DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS. BOY AND GIRL TITLE-HOLDERS. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Tho finals and semi-finals in the New Zealand tennis championships were reached this morning. Tho weather was very hot, with a rising noith-westc-r which promised to be enervating and possibly interfere with pjay. The first match finished was the girls final, in which Dulcie Nicliolls, of Auckland (holder for two years), beat Margaret Gibson (Timaru). The Aucklander lost the lead at 4-3 in the first set, but, by court craft and drawing her opponent in and out, managed to win the first set by a narrow margin. Then she settled down to win 6-0. Malfroy "won the boys’ championship easily enough, hut Lucas fought hard and took the second set. It was extraordinarily good tennis, and showed the value of the Wellington coaching system. Results:
Girls’ Singles—Final: Dulcie Nicholls beat Margaret Gibson, 6-5, 6-0. Boys’ Singles—Final: Malfroy beat Lucas. 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. Ladies’ Singles—Semi-final: Mrs Scott beat Miss Marjorie Macfarlane, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3; Miss Speirs beat Miss Knight 6-1, 3-6, 7-5. . Men’s Doubles.—Semi-final: Ollivier and Seay beat Haege and Parker 7-9, 6-1, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3. „ Men’s Singles— Semi-final: D. France beat Peacock 5-7, 6-4, 7-5, 6-5.
NORTH OTAGO TOURNAMENT. OAMARU, This Day. The North Otago Lawn Tennis Association’s tournament was concluded yesterday afternoon in glorious weather. The championship results w T ere: — „ , . . Ladies’ Singles—Miss Perkins beat Miss Gibb, 7-9, 6-4, 3-0 (Miss Gibb retired). Men’s Singles—H. K. Sumpter (Oamaru) beat E. Boddy (Dunedin), 6-3, 8-6, 3-6, 6-4. Ladies’ - Doubles —Miss Patteson (Dunedin) and Miss Sowden (Christchurch) beat Mrs and Miss Dutlne (Dunedin), 6-2. 6-2. Men’s Doubles—Sumpter brothers beat Hamilton brothers. 6-2, 6-4, 6-2. "Hie ladies’ handicap singles were won by Miss Perkins, and the doubles by Misses Patteson and Sowden. The men’s handicap singles were won by C. Mollison, the doubles by Familton brothers, and the combined doubles by McDougall and Miss Patteson.
