NEXT BRITISH BUDGET
LOWER TOTAL EXPECTED.
REDUCED DIRECT TAXATION. EXTENDED LUXURY IMPOSTS. (Per Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 9.35 a.m.) LONDON, December 29. The “Daily Mail” understands that ' the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Mr | Winston Churchill) is satisfied he can frame the 1926 Budget at a substantially lower figure than that of 1925, excluding the coal subsidy, which will probably total £30,000,000. It is expected that the balance-sheet on March 31 next will show a deficit, but there is a possibility of a reduction in direct taxation, provided Mr Churchill succeeds in obtaining Cabinet’s approval of new taxes, such as one on betting, whisky export tax, and an extension of the luxury tax.
