SCENES OF YOUTH REVISITED

THE HON. W. PEMBER REEVES. DAY IN ASHBURTON COUNTY. The Hon. William Pember - Reeves(chairman of directors of the National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd.) visited Ashburton yesterday with the object of visiting the county and familiarising himself as far as possible with local conditions. Accompanied by Messrs C. J. Ronaldson and E. P. V. Scaly (managers respectively of the Christchurch and Ashburton branches of the Bank), ai long day was spent in motoring through many of the principal districtsof the county. The party were entertained at luncheon by Mr and Mrs Henry Maginne&s, of Methven, Mr J. Can* (chairman of the Mount Hutt County Council) also being present. After luncheon a visit was paid to the Rakoia Gorge, where Mr Reuses spent a short period of his life during the late ’seventies as ai cadet at MountHutt Station.

Upon his departure for Christchurch by the evening express, Mr Reeves expressed himself as delighted with what he had seen of the county and its wellfarmed and prosperous appearance. Her also expressed liis pleasure at revisiting, after very many years, portions, of the county with which his youth had been associated.
