FIRE AT BLENHEIM.
TWO SHOPS DESTROYED. (Per Press Association.) BLENHEIM, This Day. Two shops in the business quarter of the town were destroyed by fire at. 2.30 this morning. One was occupied by Mr William Bateman, cycle dealer, and the other by Mr Mervyn Patchett, confectioner. Both were practically burnt out before the alarm was given. The brigade made a remarkable “save” of the adjoining building. The shops were owned by Mr J. B. Rayner, and were insured.
The adjoining shops, owned by Mr S. Adams and Mrs J. Hood, and occupied by Mrs M. Scollard and E. and J. Walton, both ladies’ outfitters, were slightly damaged by smoke and water. The fire started at the rear of Mr Patchett’s shop. The origin is not known.
