Roy, formerly Metkvm represen tat ive of Messrs Wilding, Acland and North, and now of the Public Trust Department, Wellington, was a : visitor to Methven on Thursday. RAKJUA. After a day or two of rmild, dull weather, heavy rain set in from, the south yesterday morning, and the 'temperature became much colder. The rain continued *fco fall steadily until after mid-day,; when the clouds became lighter, and the rain ceased in the middle of 'the afternoon, PENDARVES. After nearly a week of spring-like weather, with occasional north-west winds, the conditions have again become wintry, and to-'ciay a keen southerly is "Blowing, accompanied by heavy showers. In spite of the rather severe weather of the past months, a. fair growth "has been noticeable in grass and crops. The recent fine days have made still further improvement in these, and have enabled farmers to make progress in drilling and workingdown for later crops. CHERTSEY. .&t the fortniglitly meeting of the Chiertsey Lodge. No. 90, 1.Q.0.F., Bro. J amies Richardson, M.C, presided. One brother was declared off the funds, and several accounts were passed for payment. It was decided to hold the installation of officers at next meeting, when the following will be installed: Bto. D. Cameron, N.G.; Bro. E. E. Eude, V.G.; Bro. 'J. Richardson, recording secretary; Bro. R. Croy, F.S., and Bro. W. Cain, treasurer. Arrangements ar« • being made • for the installation to be carried out by P.D.D.G, Masters, of whom six .are resident in the Countv.
ASHWRTON FORKS. A presentation social to Mr and Mrs B. Evans, heKt in Mr J. Hydes' shed, Ashburton Forks, on Wednesday evening, was largely attended. Mr Hjvles, on behalf of the residents of the district, presented Mr Evans with an eight-day clock and Mrs Evans with a. Doulton salad bowl. Messrs Buchan, Grigg, and Green paid complimentary tributes to the departing guests. Songs were sung by Misses M. "Evans and Donald, recitations by Miss Clark and Mrs Lee, and a comio item "by Mr Buchan. After dancing to good music supplied by local talent, the singing of Old Lang Syne brought a most successful evening to a •i-lose.
