NATJONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. FURTHER MATCHES DECIDED. (Per Press Association • TRENTHAM, This Day. The following aro the results of further matches at the National Rifle Association's meeting at Trentham, continued on Saturday:— Canterbury Match, 10 shots at 600 yds.—Capt W. N. Masefield (Marlborough), £5, 46; Capt A. S. T. Butler (Karori) £4, 45; D. J. Anderson (Kaituna), £3, 45; V. Keeley (Cambridge), £3, 45 • J. R. Yeandle (Ashburton), £2, 44. Marlborough Match, 10 shots at 300 and 500yds; A grade.—W. S. Mills (Kiwi) £5, 99; H. Donald (Opaki) £4, 98; P. Goldfinch (Wellington Old Navals) £4, 96; O. J. Nix (Featherston) £3, 96. B grade: J. Kulson (Kanieri) £3, 94; J. Burns (Karori) £2, 93. Tyro Prize.—J. Joblin (Opotiki), £2, 94.'
When the shooting closed on Saturday, with two matches of the Belt series completed, the leading men were: Mills (Kiwi), 143; Goldfinch (Wellington), 138; Hunt (Wellington), 138; H. Donald (Opaki), 137; Anderson (Kaituna), 137; W. H. Ballinger (Petone), 137. _ Three matches counting for the j Trentham Aggregate (all scores at 300, i 500, and 600 yards in the B series) have been fired. Mills, Hunt, and Goldfinch lead with 234, followed by W. H. Ballinger 233, Donald 232, and Guiney 231. The Wairoa team won the Islington Cup for the best five-men aggregate in the tile shooting match of the service series, witli a score of 80 out of a possible 125. Greytown was next with 75. The rifle club champion teams' match, five men a-side, counting all scores in the Belt series, attracted 24 i entries. Petone is leading with 661 points, two ahead of Otaki and Wellington Suburbs, while Linton and Greytown have each 650. When the 300 yards range of the Auckland Match was started this morning the light was dull but steady, and not a breath of wind was stirring, so that scoring was "hot." Goldfinch, who tied with Hunt for second place in the aggregate for the King's Fifty, had hard luck. He became seriously ill on Saturday night, necessitating his removal to the hospital. R. E. Harrison (Hawera) and J. E. Harris (Linklater), topped the list in the Auckland match with 96 each. Harrison takes first place with the better card at the long range. ASHBURTON COUNTY SCORES. SOME CREDITABLE FIGURES. (Special to the "Guardian.") TRENTHAM. May 2. Trentham was in a very tricky mood on Saturday, with heaivy rear wind. The rain caused shooting to be suspended in the mid-afternoon. The Ashburton competitors' scores were: — Opening Match.—D. Clements, £l, 96: D. F Keir. £l, 95; H. Cromie 89, J. Carr 88. F.
