BOXING. ASHBURTON TOURNAMENT. The Ashburton Boxing Association will hold its first tournament of the 1925 season on Wednesday evening, when boxers from Timaru, Temuka, Gcraldine and Christchurch, will be competing in addition to local men The programme includes special matches between the light-heavy weights C. Pocock (Christchurch) and Manning (Temuka), and well-known welter-weights in A. Thompson (Christchurch) and J. Lewis (Ashburton). Other competitors are A. Wallace, H. Wallace, Hopkinson, Diggs More, Argyle and Phillips. Several novices wdl make their appearance. About a dozen bouts are scheduled for decision, and these should provide some excellent encounters. The public will be admitted, and prices are advertised elsewhere in this issue. The association is making every endeavour to promote the sport, and a strong class is now under the instruction of Mr C. Stock Classes are being started for boys, who will be riven two months' tuition free or charge. A large number of lads have promised to take advantage ot tlie association's offer.

CONTESTS IN BRITAIN. LONDON, April &>. A boxing match at the Albert Hall between Johnny Brown, jun. and Mkj Clark, fly-weight champion of Britain, was one of the pluckiest witnessed for a. long time. Brown fought gamely until the last few seconds of the twentieth round, when he was knocked out. It was apparent five rounds earlier that he could not win, and the spectators shouted to the seconds to throw in the towel. Bombardier Wells was knocked out in the. third round of a 15-round contest by Jack Stanley. Wells was booed.

SCULLING. GOODSELL v. HANNAN. SYDNEY, May 1. Maior Goodsell, world's champion sculler, states that he will row J. Hannan on .June 13 on the Paramatta River, or, if he is allowed £3OO expenses, on the Wanganui River. He adds that he will give Hannan Mil May 8 to give a definite answer.
