>METH VEN. In the theory . examinations held in December in connection with -trinity College London, the following pupils of the Methven Convent obtained passes:— Junior honours: Verdi McKendry. Preparatory Honours: Bella ' Beary, Sliona Maugor, Sybil Reid; pass, James Mclntosh.
RAKAIA. The Rakaia River, which for some time has been dirty and unfish able, is now clearing rapidly, and the first catches of quinnat for the season are reported. Three local anglers have been successful, catching quinnat weighing 12, 17, and 26 pounds respectively. If the river continues to clear good sport is anticipated at the week-; eil The following rinks have been selected to represent Rakaia in the match against Linwood, at Rakaia, on Saturday: —Weaver, Shannon, Cessford, Holmes (s); Milne, Allen, Stubbs, Henderson (s); Hardy, Masson, Cooke, Newman (s); Merrm, Palmer, Glasse, Wright (s). Emergencies: Evisoiij, H. Stubbs, and BiacKi6y.
