(Per Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 11.25 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day.
A tragic fire at a stable at Camperdown leased to W. E. Badd resulted in the loss of about a dozen horses and the death of Jack Sullivan, aged 60, who was engaged with many other willing helpers in freeing the horses, who numbered 66. Sullivan was trapped by the flames and burnt to death.
When lie realised his escape was cut off, lie climbed to a ventilator which overlooks the street, but could only put liis head through the opening in the reinforced iron wall. Despite the frantic efforts of the onlookers to make the opening larger, the flames reached the unfortunate man before they managed it. The fire brigade arrived a few minutes too late. The horses were valued at £4O each and harness valued at several hundred pounds was destroyed.
