THE MISSING SHIP
DOUGLAS MAVVSOM’S FATE.
may have run ashore.
NAVAL SEARCH SUGGESTED
(Per Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 10.5 a.m.) BRISBANE, July 23.
Mr John Burke, managing director of the John Burke- Company, the charterer of the Douglas Mawson, stated that she was loaded with wool and empty casks, and sheathed with pine. The Douglas Ma-wson should have been hard to sink. He believed the vessel may have drifted ashore on the territory on the coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria and considers the Navy Department should send a vessel to investigate. He says Captain Tune was a good seaman. He may have run before a storm and reached the western coast of the Gulf, and in that case the story told by the blacks may be true. A naval search would decide this point- definitely.
