FATAL INJURIES FROM FALL..

(Per Press Association.) : WELLINGTON, July .23. ] Archibald Maplesden, 42, married, sustained injuries as a result or a heavy fall and died in the V elilngton hospital to-night. Deceased was standin j/ort the hack of a 10-firy owned by Messrs A. A. AYells, painters and decorators, by whom he was employed. The lorry turned a corner and he overbalanced and fell heavily on the ioadway, sustaining fatal injuries.

DUNEDIN, July 23., A sad motor fatality occurred in Cargill Road at 8.30 this afternoon. A youth named J. Pledger, aged IS, employed by a firm of plumbers, was knocked down by a motor, driven by Mrs Hammer and died on arrival at the hospital.

SAVED FROM DROWNING

WHAKATANE, This Day. A gallant rescue from drowning was effected by Mrs Souter at Taneatua, yesterday. While crossing the Mhakatane Riven a gig, driven by Mr Gooch capsized, and he was pinned under the water Mrs Souter, who was nearby rushed to his rescue, and held Gooch s head up till others arrived and extricated the man in an exhausted condition. The horse was drowned.

CAMBRIDGE, This Day. A shocking motor fatality occurred on the main Cambridge-Hannlton Road near Leslie’s Gully last evening. - : motor van driven By F. MrtcHell 3 accompanied by a lad, Harold Bretts, and John Raymond Hooker, was returning from a football match at Cambridge. After passing another car they were endeavouring to get on to the crown of the road when they encountered loose sand. The car-kidded and capsized. Hooper jumped out, the car failin''’ on him, killing him instantly, ms head being crushed. The other occupants escaped unhurt, but suffered shock The body was brought to Hamilton. The deceased was aged nineteen.
