FLOODS IN MADRAS. (Received This Day, 1.5 p.m.) ,DELHI, July 22. Heavy rain in the Madras presidency caused the River Cauvery to burst its banks and inundated a great area to a depth of eight feet. The river left its course at various points and many districts are isolated. Enormous damage to property is feared and loss of life. Whole towns are deserted by the inhabitants.
TREK ACROSS HIMALAYAS. Colonel Haddieh and a small party organised by Mr Francis Younghusband returned to Calcutta, after crossing the Himalayas from Darjeeling into Tibet by motor-car, a tractor feat never hitherto performed on a wheeled vehicle.
