TIMARU MARKETS.
TIMARU, June 6
The grain market continues quiet. Millers are now well supplied with Australian wheat owing to recent importations', and there is little local wheat being offered. The demand for fowl wheat is good, and this line is keeping fairly firm. As high as 5s 6d to 5s 7d per bushel f.o.b. has been paid for these lines. Values to farmers are 5s 4d to 5s 5d per bushel on trucks. Fowl wheat is likely to be scarce until Australian supplies arrive in the north. Seed oats are wanted, and good Gartons are especially scarce and therefore dear. „As much as 5s a bushel can be obtained for lines suitable for seed. Present values for feeding quality are 4s 6d to 4s 9d per bushel. Chaff, in sympathy with the oat market,* is scarce, and up to £6 os to £6 7s 6d per ton on trucks has been paid; Peas are dull and neglected, and No. l's are bringing 5s 6d. There has been some inquiry for linseed at last week's prices, and £l6 per ton on trucks, sacks extra, has been paid during the week by growers. It appears that there is not a very large amount of linseed in the country. All available has been consumed locally. Grass seed values are 5s 6d to 6s per bushel on trucks for good undressed seed, a slight rise, Potatoes ara at about the same figure as last week. Whites are bringing £5 per ton and reds £4 10s on trucks. The demand is poor owing to large Australian supplies coming to hand, but values mav be expected to firm up a little in a short while.
