A telegram from Chester, Illinois, says 17 of the escaped convicts are still at large. They are being hunted by bloodhounds. Eight fugitives were recaptured during the night. The authorities believe a general escape of all the prisoners was planned by outside confederates, who smuggled knives and Weapons into the xercise pen.
