MIDLAND RAILWAY.
TIMETABLE ARRANGED. There will be a saving of two hours fifty-two minutes in the journey between Christchurch and Grevmouth wlif'ii passenger trains commence running through the Otira tunnel on Monday, August 6. The new timetable has been so arranged as to give the people on the West Coast the principal benefit of the time saved as a result of the trains going through the tunnel. With the existing timetable it is possible to get from Christchurch to Hokitika on Saturdays only, while the journey to Ross, 39 miles south of Hokitika, cannot bo done by train in less than two days. The refreshment rooms will be located at Otira only. . The distance between Christchurch and Greymouth through the tunnel is 145 miles, and the railway fares will be as follow : —First-class : Single 22s del, return 44s Gd; return excursion, d4s del. Second-class: Single 15s 2d return dOs 4d; return excursion, 23s Sd.
