CARPENTERS AND JOINERS
THE NEW AWARD. (Per Ptess Association.'' AUCKLAND, This Day. The first Dominion award under legislation passed in 1922 was made to-day by the Arbitration Court, when its decisions in connection with the Carpenters’ and Joiners’ dispute, recently heard in Wellington, were filed. There are 2500 employers attached as parties to the award. The matters referred to the Court were wages, overtime, suburban work, country work, preference, and exemptions. In a memorandum attached to the award Mr Justice 1 razer deals with these very fully. Mr Scott, the employers’ representative, disagreed with his Honor and Mr Hunter, the workers’ representative, in increasing the wages of carpenters on outside jobs by 3d an hour above the standard rate for skilled 'workers. The hours are to be 55 per week, and the minimum wage for carpenters and joiners and machinists is 2s per hour for outside workers and 2s l ; ?d for factory workers.. The award comes into force on August 6 and operates for two years.
