SWIMMING.
THE HARRIS CUP.
ASHBURTON TEAM WITHDRAWN
The Ashburton Swimming Club had intended sending a team to Christchurch to-morrow to compete in the Harris Cup Relay Race at the Richmond carnival. The proposed team was as follows: —R. M. McGregor, F. Ray, W. S McClymont, A. Dunlop, and J. Ramsay. Unfortunately McGregor has suffered some injury to his back while diving, which will not allow of his taking part at the carnival. The club has therefore decided not to compete for the Harris Cap.
EAST ASHBURTON CLUB. The East Ashburton Swimming Club held a series of events at the Hampstead baths last evening. There was a fair attendance, and the races in each case provided close finishes. Some exchanges of shots with the polo ball addod to the entertainment of the onlookers. Following were the results: 75yds Seniors.—First heat: J. Ramsey (scr) 1, E. Brophy (7sec) 2. Second heat: A McKay (9sec) 1, G. Day (ssec) 2. Final: E. Brophy 1, J. Ramsey 2. 50yds Juniors. —R. Judge (lsee) 1, E. Phelps (4sec) 2. 50yds Ladies’. —A. Loach (scr) 1, F.i Stills (ssec) 2. 1 Plunge.—J. Brophy (34ft Bin) 1. Cork Scramble for Boys. —Weston. NEW ZEALAND LADIES IN SYDNEY. SYDNEY, February 15. Miss Gwitha Shand and Miss Walrond were officially welcomed by the Ladies’ Swimming Association.
