MT. SOMERS.

There was a good attendance at the last meeting of the Ladies' Society, when a Question Box was held; the questions bringing forth good discussion. An enjoyable evening was spent. At the last meeting of the Men's Club a junior debate was (held, "Should Bachelors Be Taxed." A vote resulted m. a narrow victory for the negative. The chimney has now been added to the club ! room, and was fittingly completed by the gift of a mantlepiece from Mr J. McClymont. Another very welcome addition to the club's property has been, made through the generous gift of a set of parallel l bars by Mr G. Hefford, of I Ashburton. The club contemplates pin-chasing m the near future boxing gloves, dumb bells, and other gymnastic equipment for the members, thus adding physical power to the social enjoyments of the club.
