MACHINERY IN AGRICULTURE.
The authorities m Great Britain are taking very active steps to keep m the forefront of the applications of machinery to agriculture. The Minstry of Agriculture is setting up a permanent committee to make thorough practical tests of all the appliances which are now on the market or which may be itroduced from time to time. Farmers and manufacturers will both be consulted m the arrangements for tho tests, which will be carried out at trial stations and will take into account all the elements of cost, reliability and son on usually neglected m competitive trials. No fees will be charged and the results of the tests will be made public. Every encouragement will therefore be given to the introduction of improved types of raachineiy. The Board of Agriculture has also developed a numlier of research institutes m which prolonged study is made of seeds, manures, processes of cultivation, and the breeding and diseases of animals. Over £1000,OQO a year is n.ow being spent on this work. ,
