RACING MEN ROBBED.

BURGLARY IN HOTEL

A light-fingered gentleman made a call at the rooms along one floor of the Gros.venor Hotel, Timaru, at an early hour yesterday morning (says the "Post") and as a result of his visitation half-a-dozen di . the guests who were slumbering m the particular apartments of this area, found soon alter dressing time that the cash which they had either accumulated or which remained unto them after a day at the races and subsequent festivities inseparable from holiday jaunts, had vanished from its lodging place m their

garments. . \ The amounts lifted by the . visitor who had not heralded his coming are understood to range from a -couple ot pounds or so up to a tidy little bundle of "thirty quid." The men who were thus deprived of a little ready cash are stated to be "sports," and to. have accepted the set of fortune against them m the philosophic spirit of those who q;o a-racirifc, and sometimes win and sometimes lose. The police are inform ed of the losses, and are endeavouring to procure the name and address of the uninvited caller so that the "g»rts may have the satisfaction of getting a run for their money, even though it may be m an enclosed "track" instead of on the racecourse.
