NEW ZEALAND APPEAL.
OFFICIAL DISCOURAGEMENT. (Per Press Association V/opyright.) WELLINGTON, January 28.. A paragraph appeared m the tiewsTpapers some time ago- to the effeot Jbhat the dairy companies m New Zealand had received an appeal from Ireland for financial support. With reference to that appeal the Prime Minister stated that the Imperial Government has sent out the following cablegram : — "The appeal made by the Irish Agricultural Organisation Society, Dublin, to co-operative dairy companies m New Zealand for moral and financial support is calculated to hinder the British Government m its fixed determination to stamp out murder, and is wholly superfluous and uncalled for. Some of the creamery managers, however, are Sinn Feiners; and some creameries have been used as rendezvous of the Irishto republican army. Owners of creameries which hay destroyed or damaged c&W'ond do apply for compensation U County Courts, and these Courts assess the damage, which is then payable from local rates. Where there is delay m securing payment from the local authorities the Government ha,ve made^t known that they are prepared to consider sympathetically any case of hardship resulting from sucHft'delay.V'>"*•''- ■>■' "The total number of co-operative [creameries m Ireland is 71(k. but of this number only nineteen'have been destroyed and twenty-four damaged, seven of which are now believed <fco be agam carrying on business!"
