METHVEN RACING CLUB.
A. meeting of the committee of the Methven Racing Club was held in the A. and P. rooms on Thursday'evening. Mr T. S. Harrison presided, and there were also present: Messrs Dowling, McLeod, Ireland, Morgan, Nordquist, McAnulty, Richards, Dart, and _Green. It was. decided that application be made to the Gaming Act Commission for two days' racing, instead of .one as at present. Messrs Harrison, Richards, McAnulty, and Dart were appointed a sub-committee to further -the interests of the club.
The treasurer \ (Mr H, .; Green) reported that the on the recent race meeting amounted to just over £600.
The chairman moved that a vote of thanks be passed to the president, Mr S. Richards, for the handsome cup he had presented to the club and which was attached to the principal race at the meeting. It was unanimously decided that Mr Richards be elected a life member of the club.
It was decided that a strong protest be sent to the Railway Department concerning the late running of the special train from Christchurch on race day. This train was 11 timed to arrive at Methven at 10.55 a.m., and actually arrived at 12.16 R.m.,> it being, necessary to delay the racing for over an hour in consequence. The delay was most provoking, and to a certain extent marred the day's outing to hundreds of visitors. It. was found necessary to delay the return train till 7.45 p.m., instead of. 6.15 p.m. as at first arranged. The secretary and Mr Dart were appointed a sub-committee to inquire into the matter and report to the next meeting.
