HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.
WELLINGTON, August 11. The High Commissioner reports, under date London, August 7, as follows :—' Meat.—The demand for English js limited and the .market is quiet. The average closing prices are: Beef Is sd, mutton Is 9d, lamb 2s per lb. There is no change in the price of imported meat. Butter—Supplies are decreasing and prices are firmer. Average quotations are: English £18 9s 6d, Irish £19 10s per cwt. Cheese—There is ,a poor demand. English cheese is unchanged at £8 12s to £9 2s, Canadian (spot) £7 12s to £7 14s, ■white £7 14s to £7 18s per cwt. For coloured, quotations are:— C.I.F. £7 9s to" £7 14s per cwt. The stock of New Zealand cheese on Au- j gust 6:was 17,831 cwt., against 9274 cwt. at the same time last year. Hemp.—The Mantta market is quiet] and steady. J grade July-September shipment sold at £63 16s per ton. i Other quotations' are unaltered. Manila receipts from January 1 to August 1 were 699,000 tons, against 637,000 tons in the same period last year. The i Now Zealand market continues dull, witli no change in prices.
