DUNEDIN, August 11. There were fair. supplies m all departments at Burnside to-day, with the exception of pigs, which were in short supply. The latter sold at another advance on late high prices. Sheep values were a good deal easier jand good cattle were sold at prices very satisfactory to vendors. 'The decline in sheep prices, was due to the fact that <a large proportion of habitual buyers were absent at the Grand National meeting at Christcihurch. ■ Fat Cattle—l7s head -were offered. The quality on the whole was no.t up to the usual standard. Competition was good throughout the sale, and prices were well up to late rates. Prime heavy bullocks realised, to £32, prime from £24 5s to £27, medium £19 7s 6d to £22, light and unfinished sort., £14 upwards. Prime' heifers realised from £17 10s ■'..>' £21, medium £14 10s to £16 Ids, "light and aged from £11 upwards. Store Cattle—A large yarding was offered, the quality of which was very .inferior, comprising mostly young cattle in backward condition... For 'this class competition was slack, and a reduction in, values took place. For the i small number of animals offered which showed breeding" and were in forward condition competition was good. Sheep—-3164 head were offered. Competition was. restricted to 4i few buyers, and prices suffered in consequence, values being fully 3s 6d per head below last week's nates, although the last sales of the day firmed up on earlier sales. Prime heavy weight wethers •realised from 53s 6d to 60s 6d, ' medium 435.t0 51s 9d, light and iinfinished sorts from 33s upward, prime ewes from 41s to 46s 3d, medium 35s to 40s, light and aged from 2fes upwards. Lambs—l 73 head were penned. Competition was good, and prices were about equall to ' late rates, butchers' lambs selling from 25s to 35s 6d per head. Pigs—A small yarding, the number being insufficient for requirements. .Competition was very keen and a dear sale resulted. Best baconers realised from Is Id to Is 2d per lb, and best porkers from Is 2d to Is 3d per lb.
