THE STRIKE COMMENCES.

AUCKLAND, April 27. The strike of the railway engine drivers, '■ firemen and cleaner's in Auckland commenced at midnight. An indication of what was to happen was provided earlier in the evening by the refusal of men who had completed, runs to undertake any further work. At midnight the engines engaged in shunting at the station yards returned to the sheds, and the cleaners on the night slii;- ceased work.
