RAKAIA.

In the Oddfellows' Hall, at Rakaia, on Tuesday evening, the Service 01 Song entitled "Never Despair," was rendered by the choir, which has had it in preparation for some time. The chair was taken by tho Rev. E. N. Blakiston. The Rev. A. S. Morrison delivered an address. The connective readings were taken by Mrs Morrison, the solos by Mrs Hunt, Mrs Judkins, and Miss Tucker, and duets- by' 1 Mrs Croy and Miss Tucker, and Airs Croy' and Mr L. Oakley. ._ One item of interest this spring is the large number of butterflies to be seen. What particular phase of, the season accounts for this is hard to say, but certainly tho number jflittirig about the lilac and fruit trees is much greater than usual. At the recent Flower Show of the Rakaia Horticultural Society a,protest was entered against the award of. the first prize in the class for Indian Runner duck eggs, were not those of the pure Indian Runner strain. The ground of the protest, was the.colour of the eggs, which were green. The protest as not yet been definitely,, settled, but authorities seem to differ on the point, though the Journal of Agriculture states that pure Indian Runners may lay either white or green eggs. Mr R. Williams, late of Sumner, arrived in Rakaia on Wednesday to take up his duties as postmaster.
