SHIPPING AND STORAGE.
WELLINGTON, August 29. . The question of shipping facilities for the Dominion's present season's frozen meat-was the-subject of a question today by Mr Pearce to the (Prime iMinis-T, ter. *He also desired- to know J>he amount of frozen meat at present stored in Britain.
Mr Massey replied that a few days ago< there were 28,000 tons of frozen meat in storage in England, excluding bacon and poultry. He believed the total frozen storage capacity in Britain was 200,000 tons. He had not received any direct information, but be had been given to understand that up to about the. third week of October it was expected that over three million carcases would be shipped from New Zealand. As far as he could make out it was expected that by December 31 "there would be four million carcases in the frozen stores in the Dominion. In the first six months of the season, going on past experience, they might expect not more than six and a-half million carcases, so that it was reasonable to estimate that there would ;be about ten and a-half. million carcases to handle. He did not think there would be ships enough, to get the stores cleared by the end of December, but there would be little difficulty in getting the stored meat reduced considerl ably by then.
