ANAMA.

A concert, in aid of tlifi school funds, was held in the Anama School last Friday evening. Mr I>. O'CaAiaghan (Chairman of the School Committee) was in .the chair. Although the roads and watercourses were in v flooded state as a result of the heavy rain during the previous part of the day* yet the attendance of residents and scholars was good. The flooded state of the south branch of the HindsRiver made it impossible for perform- ■ ers and visitors to come from Mayfield, Tho residenLs find the .new bridge over Twentyman's Crossing a great boon to • the district, especially in times of flood. The committee wondering whether sufficient performers - would arrive, was greatly relieved and pleased to see arrive from, Ashburton Messrs W. Searle and McDonald. Mr W. Searle contributed to tho evening's enjoyment by giving a humorous recitation and also a stump speech, in costume, seeking political honours. Mr McDonald greatly pleased all by his humorous recitations and comic songs. The song, entitled reaching ."The High, Note," resulted in a considerable sum $ of money being thrown forward for the benefit of the school funds. The, following contributed-items:'—Mr-Ber- *" nard Harrison, pianoforte sdlp.j. song's, Mrs "W. J. Robertson' and'-Mr, J: ,L. Bennett; bagpipe selection,' Mr' \V. J. Robertson. During the course'of the meeting the chairman extended to Miss Walker (the > nowly 7 appointed teacher), a hearty welcome Jo tie district. After tne -customary; votes; of thanks, a very enjoyable 'concert waJS brought to a close by singitj'g the National Anthem.
