A CANTERBURY COMMITTEE.
CHRISTCHURCH, July 5
The executive appointed to inquire I into the distribution of railway services in -Canterbury^ advises that, amongst other things, a committee entitled the Citizens' Railway Transport Committee, should be appointed, consisting of the Mayor and two delegates each from commerce, industry, lalour, and agriculture. The Government should provide a central office, secretary, and clerical help. The Committee should deal- with all applications for transport for the good of all places/except :the Christchurch-Lyttelton section. The committee's work will'be subject to rules and regulations deemed necessary by the Department. The report also" dealt with providing work for men willing to work in the coal mines in Canterbury, as it is alleged that a thousand men will be idled shortly through' tho closing of freezing i works and allied industries.
