When I the •' Auckland - Wellington trains arrive here, there is a great stampede; for.»accommodation. . All the hotels and boarding-houses are crowded out, even ' with shakedowns. Many people' Were tramping the sti'eets ' for hours seeMng a place to lay their heads. Oh Thursday night .fifty people slept on the. train and in/the waitingrooms, where fires were lighted to keep them;-warm. • Last night more accommodation was found, but twenty had.to sleep at the station. The Mayor today telegraphed the Minister to send 150 beds from Trentham Camp, saying that a hundred people were without beds during the last two nights.
