Mr V. G. Day, S.M., presided at today's sitting of the Ash burton Magistrate's 'Court.NOXIOUS WEEDS. The Government Fields Inspector (C. Branigan) proceeded against John Xulley on a charge of failing to cut Californian thistles on his property below Tin w aid. There was no appearance of defendant. ' ■ " •"■ ■'" C. Brauigan stated,that several complaints had been made, by farmers that the Californiari thistles oil 'defendant's farm-were going to seed, and no effort was being made to cut them. Witness gave defendant warning, but a visit to the;:; Fann'Jaat night snowed; that the thistles wore still growing, in a crop of grain, which was very badly affected. :'.■ . In order to give the defendant an opportunity to cut the thistles, as the inspector was desirtfus that they should be cut befofo tho crop";'was reaped, an adjournment until February 19 was granted. Thomas Bishop and Cornelius Bishop were similarly charged. Cornelius Bishop pleaded guilty. Tho inspector stated that this case was not so bad as' tho previous one, and that when spoken to defendants j immediately cut tho thistles. A fine I of 10^ with cost was imposed. civil case: J. .Rule (Mr Buchanan) sued W. J. S. Mc-Dowall (Mr Acland) for £21 7s for motor-car goods supplied. The defence was that the goods were supplied to defendant's sons without authority. After hearing evidence, judgment was given for the full amount claimed, with £4 los costs.
