LONDON, Oct. 24
A German official report states:—-A counter-attack...-almost epmpletely. ejected the enemy from our defences on the southern edge of Houthulst Wood.
The .French, between Ailefcte and Ostel heights, encountered strong reBistance and did not advance, owing to heavy losses. Reinforcements later, supported by armoured cars, broke our position, reaching Alleraant Chavignon. We withdrew from the untenable positions, blowing up advance batteries. Simultaneously, repeated assaults south of Finlain, also between Bw.ye and Ailles, failed.
