FOXTON, July 11. Constable F. W. Hanlon, aged 38, died .suddenly in a chemist's shop last night. He had complained of difficulty in breathing, and while waiting for medicine expired. Constable Hanlon had been previously stationed at Wellington and Okarito. He leaves a \vidow and two young children.

WELLINGTON, July 11. A serious accident occurred in the Taita Gorge to a motor car carrying a party to the races. The car skidded over a bank 20 feet high. Miss Anstice and Miss Egan were injured and removed to. Trentham Hospital. Miss Anstice was found to be suffering from a fractured rib, injury to the lung, and shock. Her condition is considered grave. Miss Egan also had a rib fractured, but was able to return to the city. The other ocucpants of the car were unhurt.
