ANA'MA

The heaviest rain since the advent of the dry seasons commenced on Sunday morning. The rain was heavy all day on Monday, consequently all creeks, wnfcer-courses, and low-lying places were flooded. As both of the branches nf tho Hinas River were in high flood"11 day Sunday and Monday, residents found it very dangerous in attempting +n ford at the various fords. The contractors with the. new traffic bridge at Twentyman's Crossing, are making ffood progress. The completion of the bridge is being eagerly looked forward to by all the residents, and when completed it will supply a long-felt want. Anama Social Club. A. good attendance of .members and visitors of the social club met in the schoolroom last Friday evening. After preliminary business, and several new members had been proposed, Mr J. I Gripps was unanimously elected president for the ensuing year. At a meeting held previous to this dal>e, when the retiring; president (Rev. P. H. Pritchett) was in the chair, the following officers and committee were elected:—Vice-Presidents: llev. Messrs P. H. Pritchett and W. E. Sleep, and Mr D. O'Callaghan; secretary, Mr G. W. Bennett; treasurer, Mr G. Burgess; reporter, Mr J. T. Williams; committee, Miss Moir, M.A.; Mesdames W. Bennett, G. Ablett, and Messrs W. S. Greenslade and J. Ablett. The officers and committee met together and drew up a syllabus, which was presented at last Friday's meeting. With slight alterations, the syllabus was unanimously adopted. The rest of the evening was devoted to a general discussion of the "Ashburton Guardian" of Saturday, May 20, which proved very interesting and profitable.
