MAYFIELD

Last Friday the temperature lowered considerably, and early on Saturday morning a light drizzling rain set in, but cleared up somewhat during the day, coming on again at night, when light rain fell through the night. On Sunday morning at about 9.30 n very heavy rain commenced, and continued heavily for about 10 hours. / During Monday only light showers fell, and at 5 p.m. the gauge registered 325 points, being equivalent to 3J inches. This is the heaviest rainfall in this district for over two years. The Hinds River, which has been comparatively dry for a long time, is now running strongly.
