DEPARTING SOLDIERS

Tluj Hinds Hull was well filled on Friday for a concert as a send-off to Privates Leslie- Tilson and a welcome homo to Private A. M. Jackson. The chair was occupied by Mr J. M. Hampton. Songs worn given by Messrs Brown, Rogers, Guinness, Aitken, and Keith, and recitations by Miss M. O'Reilly and Master J. O'Reilly. The accompanists were Misses M. and K. Rogers and' 0. McKenzie. The chairman then presented each soldier with a beautiful medal. Lieutenant R. Guinness, on behalf of himself and the Hinds Signal Company, presented Mr Tilson with a pair of military brushes. The recipients suitably responded, and stated that they had simply done their duty. | After supper the room was cleared j for dancing. Misses Hampton and I Dnvison and Messrs J. Miller and C. and E. Beckley gratuitously supplying the music.

On Friday night, May 26. in the Fairton Scliool, a very successful farewell social was tendered to Corporal G. Campbell and Private C. Gaudin, who were down on fina leave. During the evening Mr P.. Coote, chairman of the Fairton School Committee, in a very appropriate speech, presented each soldier with a pocket wallet. Both recipients suitably ' responded. Music was supplied by Miss Scott, Messrs R. Watts, W. Hoaley, and C. Anderson, while songs were given by Miss E. Bennison and Mr J. Burgess, and stendances by Messrs G. Miller and D. Heslip. After donning had been indulged in, "or whidi Mr .T. Willis kindly acted as M.C., the singing of "God Save the King" and " Aiild Lang Syno " brought a most enjoyable evening to a close.
