PATRIOTIC TROUBADOURS AT STAVELEY.

It was a happy idea to form a concert party to tour the outside districts in aid of the Ashburton County War. Relief Fund, and those initiating the movement are deserving of all praise. Last evening the Ashburton Patriotic Troubadours gave the second concert of their tour at the Staveley Hall. The building was crowded, the performers acquitted themselves well, and the audience was most enthusiastic. Encores were frequent, and cheers the order of the night: .Rousing speeches 'were given by Messrs' J.R. Brown and G. W. Nicoll and others,. ana'-altogcthera fine spirit prevailed.
During the interval, a Union Jack, the gift of Mrs Smith, senr., of Staveley, was sold, Mr Brown being the auctioneer. He was most successful, his witty remarks causing roars of laughter. The flag, was sold again and again, and was eventually bought back by the' giver and presented to the Springbum School. Altogether £477 was received for the flag.
The performance concluded with, the singing of the" National Anthem. The Rev. Mr"'Milne, in a forcible speech, thanked-the performers for the splendid entertaiment they had given. Three rousing cheers were given f6r the Troubadours, who promised to make a return visit.
