ENTERTAINMENTS.

HAYWARD'S PICTURES

The spectators at „His Majesty's Theatre had plenty in the way of variety presented to them in the screening last evening. A clear idea of. the destruction following in the trail of earthquakes could, be gathered from the films showing the: ruins''of magnificent buildings in ; ifcsjly. after^-the- great earthr} quake. Workmen -were also seen amongst the ruins searching .for- bodies and conveying the wounded to . hospitals. "After a Snowstorm in Denmark," was a charming scenic by the Continental Company. A delightful series of snow-clad buildings and vessels in port was shown, also the amount of labour involved after a heavy snowstorm in clearing the roads for traffic. As usual the Budget was full of items of vital importance and special interest. Belgian refugees were seen embarking for England, and nurses and ambulances corps starting put for the front. The lilm was also full of views of troops in various countries. "Getting Father's Goat," was an amusing Kalcm comedy, in which a judge's daughter found society life too slow, and joined the staff of a newspaper. Her reportorial instinct led her. to discover a "scoop," in which her father was caught in a gambling den. The complications which followed created roars of laughter. A powerful love story of the trapper life in Canada was presented in "The Love of Pierre Larosse." The story was strong in character, dilineation, and emontional power. The star picture, "The Colonel of tho Bed Hussars," was greatly admired for its richness in settings, and for the dramatic values entailed. The story told of .the-love of Princess Dehara for the brilliant Major Dohlberg, who was honoured by tho King by having conferred upon him a Grand Dukeship. Fearing his power at Court, a plan was formed against him to bring about his ruin and banishment. This part of the film contained many thrills, and was followed by a happy union of the Princess and the Duke. A joyous Vita graph comedy film was presented in "The Band Leader," and the manner in • which-Wnlly and Lillian surmounted all obstacles in their determination to get married was highly amusing.

The programme will be repeated this evening.
