FIGHTING AT "TCHARTOURTJSK
PETROGRAD, November 22. General Ivanoff executed brilliant manoeuvres' near Tchartorusk. The Russians in a hollow were exposed to a deadly firo from the Austro-Germrm howitzers i>osted on a hill.. General Ivanoff abandoned the idea of capturing the hill, owing to the terrible cost, and retreated across the river, allowing the enemy to occupy the low-lying ground. The ' Russian batteries on either side of a- loop in the river were niased ' until the Austro-Gormaris had reached the hollow, when the Russians fired with deadly effect. The enemy fled and the Russians reerossed the river and captured the hill.
