VALEDICTORY.

Members of the Ashburton; I'ipo Band and Scottish Society assembled last .ovening to bid farewell to Mr John Maclntyro, who, for the post four years, was Pipe -Major of tho Ashburton Pipe Band. Mr Maclntyro is to take charge of Waihau Downs' School, and before taking his departure, tho members of the Scottish Societies presented him with a,'very fine goat's hair sporran as a token of their appreciation of his services;. In tho absence of Mr Robert Bell, the Patron, Mr peter Stewart, made tho presentation, and made eulogistic references to the many sterling qualities of the departing guest. Mr 'Maclntyro,..in reply, thanked tho donors for' the handsome token of esteem, and expressed, his regret at leaving tho district. Several toasts were honoured, and songs siing by Messrs E. C CYnighoad, 11. S. Gnrdnor, A. Snthovlnml, "and a, recitation was given by Mr It. Frizzelle.
