SINKING OF THE HESPERIAN.

LONDON, Sept. 20. > Replying to the semi-official, statement from' Berlin that it was, practically impossible that a submarine sank', the "Hesperian, as no submarine was in. the, locality, the Press Bureau.' stater that undoubted proof exists that •a: German submarine sank ships on £;ep--tember 4 and o noivth and south oi' the spot where the Hesperian was attacked. That the explosion wa3 of the torpedo type was conclusively, proved by the fact that a fair-sized fragment of a torpedo is now in the Admiralty's possession^ having been picked up in' 1 the Hesperian before she sank.
