PALOONA'S ROUGH TRIP.

WELLINGTON, Sept. 21. The Paloona arrived at Wellington at 8.30 to-night, after an exceedingly | stormy passage of 29 hours from Na-1 pier, a trip which generally occupies about 16 hours. Shortly after leaving Napier, at 3 p.m. on Monday, the vessel ran into a terrific southerly gale, with mountainous head seas, and plunged so heavily, causing the propeller to race badly, that it was necessary to slow the engines down. Throughout tho .night the vessel logged only 33 to 5' knots'per hour. 'The gale continued with unabated force until noon to-day, when conditions improved, and the Paloona was enabled to proceed full speed ahead. The heavy" seas which i poured aboard fore and aft slightly damaged some deck fittings. The vessel will leave Wellington for Lyttelton and Dunedinat 4 p.m. on Wednesday. ]
