THRUST' AT THE PETROGRAD WARSAW RAILWAY.
NAVAL CO-OPERATION
LONDON, August 11
The Petrograd correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph" says that following the Russian retirement from Warsaw, the Germans have shifted the-momen-tum of their main attack to their left lank, their immediate object /being the cutting of the Petroprifid-Warsaw railway so'incivhore beiwe-.m Pskof ahd Vilnn. . • ;■'•'..
The G-o:Tin.n;:flect'is actively co-oper-ating in this fresh operation. It is thought that the enemy lost a cruiser
and two destroyers in the first attempt to enter the 27-mile passage between Oesel and the mainland, but it is unlikely that this will be the last attempt to penetrate the Gulf of Riga. None of the Russian, vessels suffered. The purpose of the Germans is to secure a passage for supplies by water for the troops operating in the direction of Riga. The Germans already hold the western shore of the Gulf, but desire seaward access. \
The focus of the enemy's pressure eastward is the Poniewiez-Wilkomierz lino. General Schemettan's cavalry is making extensive reconnaissances, turning southward from Poniewiez, indicating that the- objective is Vilna, which has been recently a special target for aviators."
