ENEMY REPULSED NEAR RIGA
DESPERATE FIGHTING ON THE
NAREW
PETROGRAD, August 11
. An official statement says:— "On tbe roads from Riga we repulsed on the night of the Bth and t'bo 9th, in hand-to-band fighting, several German attacks, supported by a powerful force of heavy artillery. On the same night and the" following day, in the direction of Dwinsk and tho district of Scboenburg and Wilkomierz, the enemy fell back, leaving 100 prisoners and several machine guns and munition chests. "There was desperate fighting on the Narew front.' Our artillery repulsed an offensive against Novo Georgievsk. "On the-roads from Woldava we repulsed attacks made under cover of asphyxiating-gases" •./ ■
