ARMY MEAT CONTRACTS.
SYDNEY, August 4. At a meeting of representatives of tho Sydnoy mc-at-packing factories, it was stated that seven factories had been thrown idle owing to tho refusal of tho War. Office, for some unknown reason, to let any. canned meat contracts to New South Wales firms, and the Federal Government declining to allow meat to be exported except for Government piirposes. Complaints were made that Americans had' secured the monopoly of tho War Office business. They were told that the meat was all right, and the prices not too high, yet since the beginning of the year all orders had gono to America. It was decided to ask tho Federal Government to relieve tho deadlock either by removing the embargo on exports or by ascertaining the War Office's reasons for its refusal to accept contracts.
