ASHBURTON STOCK MARKET.

There was a very moderate attendance at the weekly stock sale held at tho Tinwald Yards yesterday. Owing to the fact that there will be no sale next week, on account 'of the Grand National holidays, the market was practically a double one, and the entry of all classes of stock showed a big increase on last week's total. The fat sheep penned numbered 485, as against 380 last week. The yarding included 167 fat ewes, 91 fatwethere, and 227 lambs. The quality of tho fats was fairly good and there was very keen competition, every line^submitted being sold at full market rates. Fat , ewes made up to 23s 6d, wethers to 255, and lambs to 27s 6d. Tho yarding of store sheep totalled 2212, as compared with 1318 at last week's sale. It comprised 827 hoggets, the balance being ewes in lamb and free ewes. Taken on "the whole the market was very dull, chiefly because the entry was far in excess of the demand. Many sales wero forced, owing to vendors being short of feed, and farmers, rather than hold them over for another fortnight, were satisfied to let sheep go at prices below market rates A few lines' 'of really good farmers' ewes and young*ewes were the only class of shwp that competition was at afl keen for, and' these sold well up to the market rates. •
