THE INTERCESSION SERVICES.
.There were large attendance's at the various churches. At St. Stephen's Anglican Church the vicar (the Rev., J.. ll. s Burgin) officiated,' and 'was assisted by the ltev. C. L:; Sparrow.'XTho form of service adopted was the litany, followed by a celebration of the. Holy: Communion, with special intercessory' prayers. The vicar preached on; the words contained in Exodus xvii., '10-15. At St. Andrew's Presbyterian Chiirclt the service was jointly taken by the Rev. Messrs G. Miller and W. C. Blair. Appropriate hymns were sung and prayers offered up, and Mr Blair delivered a. suitable address.
A similar service was held at the Baring Square Methodist Church, the Rev. Messrs W. J. Elliott and J. D. McArthur both taking part. The prayers and hymns were in keeping with, tho occasion, and Mr,: McArthur: preached on the passage of Scripture: I. Corinthians x., 11.
The Rev. Frank Oldrieve had charge of the: service at the Ashburton Baptist Church, and Mr J: Olseri (in the absence, of Mr J. M. Inries) of that, at the Church of Christ. Adjutant A. J. Marshall presided at the meeting in the Salvation Army Barracks. Hymns, prayers, and addresses .wereall*appropriate, and at each service the feeling of the ..congregation • was deep and reverent. '
At St. Stephen's Church. this afternoon, an intercession service for women was held. The attendance was eood and the vicar was in charge.' The Rev. C. li. Sparrow delivered tho address.
