CHRISTCHUROH, August 3

Mr George Ellwood, the: well-known musician, returned to . Christchurch to-day. Ellwood went to Germany two weeks prior to the v ' outbreak of war, and , spent some months in Berlin. He states that when it became known that England had declared war, the Germans were depressed, though there never was much enthusiasm at any time. A great hatred of the British and a popular dread of the Cossacks ware, he says, the main features of life in Berlin. -'
